Have you thought about adding video to your businesses’ website? Well if having your website show up on page one of a Google search return is something you are interested in then you may want to start considering the idea. Adding video can not only seriously help your organic page rank; it will also benefit your Internet marketing campaign as a whole by helping to produce a higher click through rate and also by making your entire page more sticky.
Search engines are now working to provide “blended search” results. With preferential treatment towards video, search engine result pages or SERP’s now show video, images, news stories, maps and any other specialized content they can come up with alongside the standard search results. With these blended search results, adding video to your website presents you with much higher chance of showing up on Google’s 1st page in organic search. In fact a study by Forrester reports that any given video indexed in Google stands about a 50 times better chance of appearing on the first page of results than any given text page in the index. This is primarily because, despite tons a video content being added to the Internet every minute, there is still much less competition for video pages than there is standard website pages.
Click Through Rate
Having video’s on your website can also help its overall click through rate (CTR). People generally are more interested in video content than plain text. Because of this, searchers are much more likely to click on a video than they are a few lines of text. According to a study by aimClear in March of 2011, “Videos in universal search results have a 41% higher click through rate than plain text“, said aimClear’s Manny Rivas. Increasing your click through rate by a percentage this high, could drastically increase you website traffic and ultimately have the potential to increase web conversions by a considerable amount.
The more time a person spends on a website, the stickier it is; and a sticky website is a good website. Google likes sticky websites and videos almost always will help to make your website more sticky. Google’s current algorithm uses time spent on a page as an indicator of page quality and few things on a website are stickier than a pertinent well-produced video. An August 2010 study by Comscore shows that on average people stayed two minutes longer on a website when they watched video. If people are staying on your website a longer amount of time, Google will notice. Because of this, your website not only has a better chance up showing up in organic SERP’s but people will also get a better feel for your business and are more likely to come back to your page.
